Abstract

This dataset presents the surficial geology of the Saint-Mathieu Esker in Abitibi. The St. Mathieu esker is located in La Motte, Abitibi and extends 150 km northward. The stratigraphic units sequence varies along the St. Mathieu Berry esker. Four sequences are observed: 1) esker is composed of ice-contact sediments; 2) the esker core is composed of ice-contact sediments, the flanks of sand and the top is reworked and flattened; 3) the esker core is composed of ice-contact sediments and the flanks of sands and fine grained sediments and; 4) the esker core is composed of ice-contact sediments and gravel and is completely covered with fine grained sediments.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
The dataset comes from the geo_poly.shp file of the pkg_esker archives folder. Units descriptions are from the legende.doc document of the same folder. Surfical geology unit were reclassified according to Geological Survey of Canada standard surficial geology legend (http://dx.doi.org/10.4095/290144) when it was possible - with the understanding that some units might not perfectly match in the new classification. The original classification is kept in the dataset.
